Hotel accommodation has been reserved in listed hotels in Kyoto. The special prices are available only if reservation. All accommodations are clean, safe and comfortable.

JTB Kyoto office will accept your request for official hotel accommodations and excursion reservations by October 30, 2000(JST) with hotel deposit and excursion fee.

Hotel accommodations

Hotel accommodation has been reserved in listed hotels in Kyoto. JTB handles you hotel reservation with special discount price. Participants wishing to make hotel reservations should complete Form B and fax it to JTB, the official travel agent, by October 30, 2000(JST). Consequently, per hotel listed below, the number of available rooms is limited. Rooms are available on a "first come, first served" basis and the confirmation letters will be sent by JTB. If there are no vacancies in a hotel you request to stay in, a room in the nearest grade will be reserved. After this date room availability cannot be guaranteed. All accommodations are clean, safe and comfortable. All inquires in this regard should be sent to JTB.

• Single room: 1-bed Room. Twin room: 2-bed Room.
• Each single room of Takaragaike Prince Hotel and Hotel GIMMOND Kyoto is single occupancy of twin room.
• Including tax and service charge, but excluding breakfast in the fee.
• All hotels equip a bathroom, air-conditioning and amenity set.
• Since Holiday Inn Kyoto is now suspending to refresh the building from Aug. 21 to the end of Nov., we can't access the web page.
• A free bus from Holiday Inn Kyoto run only one service at morning and the end of day.

All payments must be made in Japanese Yen (yen/JPY). Please see the methods of payment.

Excursion

Tuesday, December 5 Afternoon will be set aside for optional excursion and no lectures will be scheduled on this afternoon. The fee is 4,300 yen. JTB operates the following Excursion. For application, please fill out the Form B. The methods of payment are described bellow.

Golden Pavilion:

was originally the villa of a Court noble named Kintsune Saionji in the precincts of the present Kinkakuji Temple. The villa was greatly improved by its second owner, Yoshimitsu, the third Shogun of the Ashikaga Shogunate. Yoshimitsu laid out an extensive garden and built a beautiful pavilion toward the end of the 14th century. The pavilion became known as the "Golden Pavilion" or Kinkaku because of its gorgeous gilding. After Yoshimitsu's death the villa was turned into a Buddhist Temple of the Zen sect under the name of Rokuonji. However, the temple is better known by its popular name Kinkakuji or the "Temple of the Golden Pavilion".

Sanjusangendo Hall:

Sanjusangendo literally means the "hall of thirty-three spaces". It is so called because there are thirty-three spaces between the pillars in front of its extraordinarily long altar. Thirty-three is an important symbolic number in Buddhism, especially associated with the worship of Kannon. It is preached that Kannon manifests himself in thirty-three different forms to save mankind. Sanjusangendo is a temple with the longest frontage in Japan, measuring about 120m in length. The present building was reconstructed about the middle of the 13th century, and is regarded as one of the best specimens of architecture of its kind. The temple is also known as the "Temple of Thousand Images" because of its numerous Buddhist images. As well as the main image, there are one thousand carved wooden images of Kannon on the long altar.

Kiyomizu Temple:

is one of the oldest temples in Kyoto, its origin dating back to the 8th century. The temple is noted for the unique style of its architecture. Its main hall stands on a cliff, with a wooden platform in front from which a panoramic view of Kyoto can be enjoyed. Most of the present buildings were reconstructed in 1633, but they reflect the style of the original ones, suggesting the style of residences of the 8th and 9th centuries.

Methods of payment

All payments of hotel accommodation and excursion must be made in Japanese Yen (yen/JPY) by one of following measures:

Credit card

1. Please fill out the hotel accommodations and excursion form (Form B) when you will pay hotel deposit and excursion fee by VISA, MasterCard, JCB, American Express or Diner's Club. Please make sure the credit card is valid. The deposit will be credited to your card number.
2. The completed Form B should be faxed or mailed to JTB Kyoto office (Fax: +81 - 75 - 341 - 1028).

Bank draft

1. Please fill out the hotel accommodations and excursion form (Form B).
2. Please prepare a bank draft covering the total of deposit. The bank draft should be made in Japanese yen in form of "Payable to Japan Travel Bureau Kyoto Office." Note that JTB will not accept a personal check.
3. The completed Form B should be mailed to JTB Kyoto office together with the bank draft. No reservation will be made in the absence of the appropriate bank draft. Since the deposit (10,000 yen per room) will be credited to your bill, please pay the balance directly to the hotel when checking out.

Please make sure that all payments of hotel accommodation and excursion are independent from the registration fee. Rules for cancellations and refunds are written later.

Cancellations and refunds

In the case of a cancellation of a hotel reservation or an excursion reservation, written notification should be send to JTB Kyoto Office. The deposit will be refunded after deducting the following cancellation charges. Note that your hotel and excursion reservations are not cancelled unless you inform the cancellation of them to JTB Kyoto office even if the conference participation is cancelled.
