John
where
is
believed
that
the
evangelist
St.
John
had
spent
his
last
years
in
the
region
around
Ephesus
and
buried
in
the
southern
slope
of
Ayosolug
Hill
and
the
Temple
of
Artemision
which
is
known
as
one
of
the
seven
wonders
of
the
Antic
World.
A
visit
to
Ephesus
-
once
the
commercial
centre
of
the
ancient
world
-
is
a
highlight
of
any
visit
to
Turkey

PERGAMUM
Pick-up
from
the
hotel
after
breakfast
and
departure
to
Pergamum.Visit
of
Acropol
which
was
built
on
an
extremely
steep
hill,
approached
by
a
winding
road
ascending
some
300m.
In
this
uniquely
designed
city,
religious,
official,
social
and
commercial
buildings
are
all
found
side-by-side.
Red
Basilica
was
turned
into
church
in
the
Byzantine
period
by
extensive
remodeling,
especially
to
the
apse
sections,
and
was
dedicated
to
the
St.
John.
In
early
Christianity,
it
was
one
of
the
Seven
Churches
of
Asia
Minor
addressed
by
St.
John
in
the
Book
of
Revelation,
who
referred
as
the
throne
of
the
Devil.
Following
the
lunch
break,
continue
for
Asclepion
called
as
the
place
of
"Aesklepios",
the
son
of
Apollo
and
the
god
of
healing
and
health,
and
was
an
important
health
center
in
Greco-Roman
times.
