In the project SEC4FACTORY financed by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research, we are developing the future security solutions for interconnected factories or what is often referred to Industry 4.0 systems. The project objectives are to investigate how cloud based resources can be used to control and supervise production system while at the same time offering a high level of information security, availability and performance. We are in particular looking into how one can use digital twins to improve security in production systems. Especially, we welcome candidates interested in the combination of AI and security for these applications The project is developing a large demonstrator showing how the new security mechanisms work in practice. The PDRF will work with a member of the CSE faculty on topics related to PLS. Duration

We are currently seeking to recruit a Post-Doctoral Researcher in security and privacy for e-health and smart wearables. Background: In late 2016, NIST issued a call for proposals for the standardization of cryptographic systems resistant to a quantum computer for encryption, key exchange and signature primitives. The standardization process is currently in its third phase. Each submission comes with a software implementation, targeting standard security levels for widespread applications, such as e-commerce. Topic: Adaptation of post-quantum primitives to constrained environments and FPGA implementation During this thesis, the successful candidate will study code-based and/or lattice-based proposals, and propose modifications to the protocols (resulting thus in alternative schemes with new proofs to be provided etc.) so that their hardware implementation can be improved. The candidate will then propose such implementations on a commodity FPGA. The development will be done in C and High-Level Synthesis will be used to transform automatically the C implementation into VHDL. You will conduct research towards a distributed intrusion detection system for constrained devices in real-world IoT applications. The intrusion detection system (IDS) you will develop will facilitate detection and containment of a security breach in the Edge, making the IoT applications of tomorrow more secure and reliable.

Your activity will be at an exciting intersection of the following fields:

• Embedded development. The constrained nature of low-power embedded world will present you with stimulating research challenges. You will implement and test your results on real-world, low-power embedded HW platforms, maintaining a steady link between your research and practice and ensuring a real-world impact.
• Applied security. To defend from attacks, you will get intimately familiar with them. You will acquire knowledge of different types of intrusion, how they manage to penetrate a system, and how they can be recognized.
• Artificial intelligence. Modern IDS systems rely on AI. You will review the state of the art, select the most viable AI algorithms for an IDS in the constrained setting of IoT Edge, and carefully tweak them for the job.
• Distributed computing. A swarm of Things in the Edge can, collaboratively monitor itself much more effectively than a single device. You will combine all the above and deploy a distributed IDS on a group of constrained embedded devices, identifying the tradeoffs between efficiency and overhead.

The result of your work will be an IDS system, which will be able to make a difference in the security and reliability of real-world IoT applications.

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join us in our project to ensure reliable and trustworthy power grid operation. In this project, we will approach the security challenges from three angles; secure energy transactions, secure decentralized storage for collaboration, and secure end-to-end communication for resource monitoring and control.

Your Responsibilities

• Conduct research on provable data possession and secure collaborative storage.
• Develop and improve upon techniques to provide Completeness, Correctness, and Freshness guarantees on stored data in collaborative applications.
• Implement the developed solutions

Basic Requirements

• PhD in Cryptography, Applied Cryptography, Information Theory, Mathematics, Computer Science or related areas.
• Excellent track record in reputable Cryptography and Security venues.
• Ability to perform research independently.
• Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with a team of researchers and engineers.
• Experience or interest in software prototyping.

Nice to Have

• Experience in data/message integrity research, such as Provable Data Possession, Proof of Data Retrievability.
• Familiar with or interested in Cloud and IoT concepts, DER and Grid 2.0 paradigm.
