CWI is looking for candidates to initiate and develop new research directions in Secure Software Systems, addressing major challenges in software systems relating to security and privacy.

The challenges concern the modelling, analysis, and design of software systems that satisfy a range of security and privacy requirements related to, but not confined to, secure information flow, static and dynamic security guarantees, security testing, intrusion detection, differential privacy, security games, authentication, authorization, anonymous communication, and cryptography.

We are looking for researchers with excellent track records in computer science, with a focus on privacy and security in software systems and their scientific foundations. The tenure-track candidates are expected to develop a research program that addresses current societal demands on secure software systems, whereas senior candidates are expected to develop and lead a new group in this area. The Computer Science Department at the University of Twente (UT) in the Netherlands is currently looking for a talented junior researcher in the intersection of Applied Cryptography and Biometrics. Funded via a collaborative research project between the UT’s “Services and Cyber-Security (SCS)” group and the “Data Management and Biometrics (DMB)” group, we are offering a position (with a competitive salary) of up to 12 months for a visiting PhD student or a post-doc.

Concretely, the research project is dealing with biometric recognition in the encrypted domain and we are looking for a talented junior researcher who has expertise in the design and analysis of cryptographic protocols, is familiar with proving such protocols secure in the malicious model, and has some experience with (somewhat) homomorphic encryption schemes. Machine learning is extremely pervasive today with variety of applications, some of which use privacy sensitive user data. In general, computing parties (e.g., cloud providers) and data owners (e.g., users) are not the same, and this setting introduces multiple layer of threats. The existing literature on privacy-preserving machine learning mostly addresses three main objectives (in isolation): privacy of the data used for learning a model or as input to an existing model, privacy of the model, or privacy of the model’s output. In addition, most of the existing techniques are not applicable to real-world applications, as they require heavy pre-processing and communicating large amounts of input data from the data owners to the computing parties, which might not be possible in some Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices that have limited memory and computational capabilities.

This project will perform research and development of practical privacy-preserving machine learning technologies to address the challenges faced in real-world applications. More specifically, the student will study advanced secure computation technologies such as differential privacy, homomorphic encryption and secure multiparty computations, and evaluate challenges in these technologies in terms of their applicability to machine learning technologies. A special attention will be given to practical challenges and restrictions (e.g., memory and computational capabilities of the data generators - IoT devices) that arise in applying these technologies to real-world applications.

In addition, the PhD student will be supervised jointly by research experts in two world-leading institutions – the University of Manchester (UoM) and the Institute for Infocomm Research (I²R) Singapore. The student will be hosted by both organisations: Year 1 & 4 at UoM in the UK and Year 2 & 3 at I²R in Singapore.

We have a number of positions in the area of secure computation based on multi-party computation (MPC) and Homomorphic Encryption. The positions are funded by three projects; an FWO grant under the Odysseus programme, a DARPA grant under the RACE programme and an IARPA grant under the Hector programme.

The goal of the research is to develop new methods for efficient MPC, methods to apply MPC to large numbers of parties, methods to build automated tools to support development of applications based on MPC and FHE, as well as innovative new MPC solutions which solve real world problems.

We are looking for applicants who can work on practice inspired theoretical work in MPC, applicants who can work on implementation research in MPC and FHE, applicants with previous experience in programming language research, as well as applicants working in theoretical aspects of the MPC and FHE.

The Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) Department at the University of Connecticut invites applications for the Synchrony-Financial Endowed Chair in Cybersecurity, a tenure-track faculty position at the associate or full professor level.
