Clearmatics Technologies
Clearmatics is a protocol engineering company. We are building a new financial market architecture that is more open, fair, and resilient than the legacy systems that are in use today. We develop protocols and software that create new markets for risk and more efficient infrastructure for trading, backed by a robust and scalable blockchain network, and secured with modern cryptographic techniques and economic mechanism design.
The Research group at Clearmatics is dedicated to developing solutions to the hard problems needed to advance our mission. We are academics and protocol engineers collaborating with teams inside and outside the company to translate theoretical results into running software implementations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the design of cryptographic protocols
- Collaborate with your colleagues on the implementation of cryptographic primitives and protocols
- Produce technical design specifications
- Produce externally facing artefacts (e.g. blog posts, papers, documentation excerpts etc.)
- Support research colleagues in conducting their research
- Interface with the Engineering team to ease the transition of the research pieces of code into robust production software fully integrated with our stack
- Keep up with new research in the space
REQUIREMENTS
- Fluency in English (written and spoken)
- Background in applied Computer Science
- Experience with system programming (C/C++/Rust)
- Strong applied cryptography skills (experience implementing robust elliptic curve cryptography)
- Outstanding algorithmic thinking
- Strong focus on code quality/documentation and simplicity
Nice to haves
- Knowledge of Unix and bash
- Experience with constant time cryptography
- Experience with cryptography on embedded systems
- Experience with Ethereum or other blockchain projects
- Experience contributing to open-source cryptography libraries

PQShield SAS
PQShield is a cybersecurity startup that specialises in post-quantum cryptography. Based in Paris, PQShield SAS concentrates the research activities of PQShield. Our mission is to come up with innovative algorithmic and/or protocol-level solutions to real-world cryptographic problems. Besides post-quantum cryptographic primitives, our research interests include advanced cryptosystems/protocols such as secure messaging, threshold schemes, and multiparty computation.
Who We Are Looking ForWe are looking for cryptographers with expertise in fields pertaining, but not limited, to post-quantum cryptography. Recruits will work with the team and provide new insights on research topics such as advanced cryptographic primitives, improvements to state-of-the-art practical cryptographic schemes, or constructions and proofs of security in models such as the QROM.
Skills we are interested in:- Deep knowledge of a relevant cryptographic field. We want future recruits to impulse new directions for our research and expand the spectrum of expertise of PQShield.
- Adaptability. You will be expected to work with a diverse team on projects that can cover various cryptographic fields.

- Research and develop open protocols for secure messaging. Think zkSNARKs based spam protection/settlement, data consistency in distributed open and hostile environments, incentivized running of nodes, and similar {example a, b, c….}
- Use a layered protocol approach that is mindful and explicit about what it requires, what it provides, under what threat models, and with what trade-offs.
-Combine cryptoeconomics and traditional technologies to create a sustainable distributed and fault-tolerant system.

The Department of Computer Science at Durham University is looking for a postdoctoral researcher from 1 Jan 2022 to work on an EPSRC project on topics related to password-hashing algorithms and idealized models of computation for a period of two years. We would be interested in applicants holding (or nearing the completion of) a PhD in Cryptography (or related fields) who have strong interests in the foundational aspects of crypto, proof techniques, and definitional work. Publications at competitive venues and ability to work independently are a plus. Applicants with backgrounds in Algorithms and Complexity are also very welcome to apply.
Durham is one of the top (and oldest) universities in the UK, and the CS department hosts one of the strongest Theory groups in the UK across the ACiD and NESTiD groups. The annual salary for the position is £42,149.
