RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, Stockholm, Sweden
As AI agents start acting in groups, delegating, negotiating, and relying on each other's inputs and outputs, the security assumptions behind single-model systems stop holding. This project develops principled and scalable foundations for trustworthy collaboration between AI agents, sitting at the intersection of AI and cybersecurity. It is funded by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF) under a programme building research ties between Sweden and Taiwan, including opportunities for research visits among the participants.
We are looking for a dedicated PhD student to strengthen our research in trustworthy multi-agent AI systems. Example research topics include evaluating the robustness of multi-agent systems under adversarial manipulation, designing secure and privacy-preserving multi-agent collaborative mechanisms, and verifiable decision-making under uncertainty and adversarial influence. You will be based in the RISE office at Kista, Stockholm for 4 years, and you will be enrolled as a doctoral student at a Swedish University. PhD education also involves participation in relevant university courses.

We are actively recruiting PhD students. The candidates will be working on Isogeny-based Cryptography with Dr. Tako Boris Fouotsa.
The research directions to be explored include but are not limited to:
- Design and optimisation of isogeny-based primitives;
- Cryptanalysis;
- Foundations of Isogeny-Based Cryptography.
Start date: January-March 2027 or September-October 2027.
Eligibility: Applicants should hold a strong MSc/Mphil in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related subject. Familiarity with Cryptography, Number Theory, Isogenies or Implementation (proof of concept or advanced) of cryptographic primitives are desirable, but are not mandatory. Outstanding candidates with a Bachelor’s degree from a four-year undergraduate program are also encouraged to apply.

KTH Royal Institute of Technology
The project concerns information- and coding-theoretic methods for analysing and improving the resilience and efficiency of federated machine learning methods in settings where communication bandwidth is limited and nodes are unreliable.
The project is funded by KTH as part of a joint initiative aimed at strengthening relations between KTH and selected partner universities. The project is carried out in collaboration with the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in Lyngby, Denmark. The doctoral student will be supervised by two supervisors at KTH and two supervisors at DTU. Mobility is a requirement for the doctoral student; the student is expected to spend a total of at least one year at DTU. However, this period does not need to be continuous and will be planned in consultation between the doctoral student and the supervisors.
Supervision: Professor Ragnar Thobaben and Professor Mikael Skoglund (KTH) as well as Professor Søren Forchhammer and Assistant Professor Stanislav Kruglik at DTU. Decision will be made upon admission.

Vid Center för cyberförsvar och informationssäkerhet (CDIS) samarbetar KTH, Försvarsmakten och andra myndigheter i syfte att stärka och bredda forskningen inom cyberförsvar och cybersäkerhet. Däri omfattas forskning för skydd av kritiska samhällsfunktioner och förbättrad förmåga att försvåra för aktörer som överväger att angripa Sverige. Cyberförsvar och -säkerhet är ämnen vars betydelse vuxit snabbt i samhället i takt med den hastiga digitaliseringen och den ökande insikten om de sårbarheter som digitaliseringen medför.
KTH bedriver sedan ett antal år tillbaka inom ramen för CDIS, och i nära samarbete med avdelningen för krypto och IT-säkerhet vid Must (som är en del av Försvarsmakten), spetsforskning som syftar till att möta de utmaningar som följer av kvantdatorutvecklingen. KTH söker nu en doktorand i kryptologi som kan bidra till den forskningen.
Tjänsten kommer att omfatta 80% doktorandstudier vid KTH och 20% placering vid Must där möjlighet ges att arbeta med några av Sveriges främsta kryptologer. Resultatet för doktoranden blir en unik kombination av teori och praktik inom kryptologiområdet.

Artificial intelligence now supports high-stakes decisions in cybersecurity, finance, healthcare, and public services, where accuracy alone is not enough. Such systems must also respect legal, regulatory, contractual, or organisational limits on their use and disclosures. Enforcing these limits is difficult when the data, model, and rules belong to different parties, none of whom can simply hand over what they hold. Privacy-preserving AI protects data and models but not rules, while conventional guardrails inspect information in plaintext and offer weak formal assurance.
This PhD project asks how to build useful AI services that enforce such constraints while protecting sensitive information.
Key research questions include:
- What should compliance mean formally when no party sees the whole system?
- How can enforcement be made verifiable rather than merely trusted?
- What are the practical costs of providing these guarantees?
Who should apply? The studentship covers fees at the (UK) Home rate. Home fee status includes UK and Irish nationals, and those with settled or pre-settled status or indefinite leave to remain who meet the residency criteria. International applicants must cover the difference between Home and International fees. Applicants should hold, or expect to obtain, a strong degree in computer science, cybersecurity, mathematics, or a related subject. Experience with cryptography, machine learning, or systems implementation is valuable, as are strong programming skills and an interest in both proofs and prototypes.
